The Stirling Spoon
There are presently no open calls for submissions.
The Stirling Spoon is a biannual online literary magazine dedicated to showcasing the creative works of both emerging and established writers.
We are looking for poetry that is raw and unapologetic, and prose that illuminates the innermost flaws and the intrinsic beauty of humankind. We want visceral, imaginative work that will haunt us, move us, stay with us. We want writing that delves into the idea of the human condition and examines the intricate bonds that tie individuals together.
We generally look for realistic fiction, but if you believe that your piece fits our mission statement, send it in!
Works with excessive or unnecessary violence or eroticism that does not serve the story will be rejected. Any pieces that promote racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, or are exclusive in any way will not be read. We aim to be an inclusive platform that amplifies the voices of writers internationally and that encourages artists to continue creating without fear of judgment.
You may submit three pieces per category. Please do not send us previously published work. Simultaneous submissions are encouraged, but please let us know as soon as possible if your work is accepted elsewhere.
- Prose: 2,500 words or less
- Poetry: no limits on length
- Artwork: must be submitted with the highest quality possible.
Please also submit a third-person biography, stating your hometown, name, and other related accolades you have received and literary magazines where your work has been previously published, if applicable.
Note: If you are submitting, please only use ONE submission form for all of the works you are submitting.
We encourage that you read through our previous three issues, which are published in full on our website, www.thestirlingspoon.com, to see what we're looking for.
